i'm also going to have to agree with komputes on this topic. on this machine, my display is never detected properly; however, that was okay in the past because fixing it was always one "sudo dpkg-reconfigure ..." away. that's not the case now! fortunately, i was able to use displayconfig-gtk to fix the problem (thanks for mentioning that app., by the way!) but if i hadn't been able to start xorg at all... would i have written an xorg.conf from scratch? not bloody likely!
