I agree that the changes are a big step back. The following quote is from last week's desktop team meeting minutes: > * GDM: made new entry box svg with an offset box rather than an inset > version, tweaked the bg to be "lighter" and "friendlier" and changed the logo > to have more "glow". Here are the problems with the new design as I see them: * The old design for the entry box could be perceived as being level with the rest of the "surface" and was much more harmonious. The offset box, along with the increased brightness, fights too much for attention. * The new color balance looks completely washed out on an average LCD. I'm not sure how the background being lighter is supposed to contribute to a "friendlier" look; the old colors were much more saturated, were more harmonious with the default wallpaper, yet were not so dark as to need lightening in order not to look depressing. * The white(ish) gradient at the bottom emphasizes the division of the footer too much, suffers from banding, and makes the washed out appearance even more noticeable. I would strongly suggest reverting to the old version, especially given that the beta has shipped with the old design (which I've seen many people call the best of any Ubuntu release), and we're past the artwork deadline. -- Hardy: Ubuntu login screen art has brightnes increased https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211740 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
