** Description changed:

I have installed ubuntu edgy eft (amd64) on my new Dell XPS M1210 notebook
- (cpu: intel core 2 duo, graphic card: intel 946GM, software: latest updates
as of today).
+ (cpu: intel core 2 duo, graphic card: intel 945GM, software: latest updates
as of today).

The problem is that if I close the lid the system hangs up (freezes) and the
only
thing I can do is to reset (reboot) it. The same problem happens if I press
one of the following function key combinations (FN keys):
    FN+F8 (CRT/LCD)
    FN+Arrow up (increase brightness)
    FN+Arrow down (decrease brightness)

As the whole system freezes immediately there are no log entries or
anything else and I have no clou what exactly (software or hardware)
  causes the problem.
