I had this bug after upgrading my Hardy installation today. I ran "apt- get upgrade -y" as root and left my PC (I locked the screen). When I came back a message showed up that gnome-screensaver-gl-helper was crashed, and apport asked me to send a bug report.
I can' t reproduce this bug with running /usr/lib/gnome-screensaver /gnome-screensaver-gl-helper from command-line.
