Please have a look at bug #124406 and its duplicates which seem to describe one variant of this problem (spurious key repeats that stop by themselves). For several people, that bug was fixed after upgrading the kernel to Hardy Alpha2 (2.6.24-2-386). Another key repeat bug (endlessly repeating keys, needs an X server reset) is discussed in bug #194214, with a patch available.
