I can confrim this too.
Actually yesterday I realized, that in the new display configuration menu, at 
login the resolution is correctly set to 1280x1024, but the desktop is too big, 
as I have to move to the edges, and the desktop "follows". When I change to 
1024x768, the resolution changes and on switching back to 1280x1024, the scree 
resolution is ok with the desktop correctly filling my screen. Unfortuantely on 
restart, the setting is not stored although 1280x1024 is still selected in the 
drop down list. So, I have to do the same switching as explained above at every 
login.
I think this should be at least a high or even critical importance.
