Alas, after going from the GNOME 2.22.1 announcement:
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-announce-list/2008-April/msg00039.html

following to the sources:
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/desktop/2.22/2.22.1/sources/
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/desktop/2.22/2.22.1/sources/gcalctool-5.22.1.tar.gz

I can say the problem is still there.

Right now I updated my Hardy installation and:

$ dpkg -l gcalctool
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Installed/Config-f/Unpacked/Failed-cfg/Half-inst/t-aWait/T-pend
|/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name           Version        Description
+++-==============-==============-============================================
ii  gcalctool      5.22.1-0ubuntu A GTK2 desktop calculator

$ gcalctool
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

$ LANG=C gcalctool
