** Description changed:

  I use Hardy.

At the login screen the resolution is wrong. It looks like the highest
posible resolution, but it seems like for a widescreen monitor, wich i
not have. After the login I can change it at the Desktop, but the login
  screen is always wrong.

I have two old CRT on a ATI Radeon 9600. A LG 1725 and a Siemens Nixdorf
"unkown". The LG can't be identified from any OS so far. The Siemens can
  be identified.

Monitor two is alway a clone of Monitor one. In Gnome I can't turn the
clone off. There is only one Display found. I can't add a new Monitor or
  force a second one.
+
+ Update: With visual effects the resolution becomes like gdm at every
+ start and doesn't remember the changes.
