Sure tried "everything" means editing xorg.conf by hand, using different Nvidia driver versions, not using Nvidia drivers (but adapter runs hot so I have to use restricted drivers necessarily). No Linux ever worked for me but as already mentioned the hardware can as WinXp shows.
