Hi, I guess it is not a bug, it is a regular behavior. Mount/umount is a filesystem relative tool, it has no relationship with hardware management. So, the problem with data loss is irrevelant.
I think this issue must be send to the « Desktop team », to decide if we have to add some « Disconnect » entry in the popup menu instead of « Unmount ». In this case, the led (so the usbkey), can be switch off.
