Because HAL told it so.  If HAL tells GPM there is an error sleeping, it
reports it to the user, simple as that.  HAL and pm-utils determine it
through a variety of means, but the likely cause is the BIOS put things
in a way that they didn't expect.  That bug is separate from this one,
and is largely hardware specific.
