Hi John, I noticed the super-slowness also when I started using Eclipse on Ubuntu (had used it for the past 4 years or so on Windows XP and it has always run smoothly). Did you try running it with another JVM such as Sun's? It was ridiculously slow for me too (it took 1-2 seconds minimum to respond whenever I typed or clicked) when running it using GCC. However, with Sun's JVM it's super fast.
