This is much better, but there are still a few issues: 1) After installing the geode driver (2.8.0-7) I am able to reach resolutions up to 1280x1024 @ 60Hz (I can't get to 1920x1440 as advertised on http://koolu.com/Koolu-WE-Appliance/Works-Everywhere-Appliance.html , but that may be my monitor's maximum resolution). 2) The VGA controller is not automatically detected and related to the geode driver, I had to do that manually through displayconfig-gtk. 3) When booting, the second half of the usplash process is still garbled (will post photo). 4) Minor: Also in between booting and getting to the desktop, it seems that the monitor flickers as if the refresh rate was not set properly.
It's too bad that this driver won't be added to Hardy, but it needs to be tested, perfected, code reviewed and approved before it makes it to distro. While this is a time consuming process, the user wins in the long run by having quality packages, one of the goals Ubuntu strives to provide. Meanwhile, I would appreciate a simple workarround solution for Koolu users until 8.04.1 comes out. Koolu is a fantastic company that is helping with the proliferation of GNU/Linux by including Ubuntu by default with their hardware (at very reasonable prices). It's users deserve good support and solutions for known issues. Looking back to 7.10's release/update and what it did to Koolu WE users, let's try not to make break something that works properly, let's correct the issue, create a temporary solution and hopefully everything will be kosher for 8.04.1, so that when the package gets approved to go into the repositories, the end user can simply install it from the command- line/recovery mode. -- [HARDY] Koolu W.E.
