This happens to me with 1280x768 resolution, so it seems to be a problem
that spans several resolutions.

I can confirm that changing the theme to crux makes the problem go away.
Changing back to human theme resurfaces the problem.

However, changing the default theme is not a viable solution, since this
affects people using other themes (Clearlooks, for example).

Trying to understand why inkscape does not play well with several gnome
themes and patching inkscape package accordingly is a much more
reasonable proposal.
