I've installed 8.4 without problems (X1950 Pro, x86_64). Compared to
8.3, it improves scrolling in Firefox and Opera significantly when using
Compiz. It also seems a little more stable under stress-testing
(creating and destroying 100 OpenGL contexts asynchronously would cause
the whole PC to lock up with 8.3. I haven't been able to reproduce the
problem with 8.4). No negative side effects observed until now, and no
new OpenGL extensions supported on 8.4.

For these reasons alone, fglrx 8.4 is a worthwhile update to Hardy.
Besides, the version number fits nicely with Ubuntu 8.04 ;-)

Keep in mind that we'll probably be stuck with these drivers for 6
months at least, so improved stability and performance are important
features.
