Thanks- I got that all done.  Haven't rebooted yet, but I'm sure it will
work.

The deeper I look, the more I think this is related to a uuid problem.
I also noticed that I no longer have dev/disk and had to therefore my
/etc/fstab file to no longer use the UUID's and instead had to use
/dev/hdax for my differnet mount points.  From what I have seen in
google searches, uuids (udev I believe) are responsible for mounting
/dev/dsp, /dev/mixer, and some other stuff.  Perhaps dev/snd as well,
but I don't know.  This may also explain why I can no longer mount my
digital camera as a USB removal media drive.  So I still imagine there
is a bug here somewhere.  Let's see what the bug folks say.
