1) I've seen this too, and even though it didn't focus correctly, I certainly could type in the window.
2) This bug magically disappeared for me over a month ago and I know several other people who experienced the same thing. This coincided with some compiz updates, so we considered it fixed. So this still happens on a fresh hardy installation?
