Hi there, i have the same problem too. I use Hardy RC (not upgraded from 7.10 but installed on a new partition), compiz enabled on a ATI x1950pro (with Restrictd Drivers in use). Looking at the image posted by SteveLW u can see that either the menu bar and the opened apps bar are disappeared too.
