I have just upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy, and also installed compiz, and I have a very similar problem: Sometimes, the CAPS LOCK key is "inverted": When it is off, I can only write in capitals (and if I keep shift pressed, I write small letters), and when it is on, it is as if it was off, I write in small letters (and pressing shift I write in capitals). I have never had this problem before.
