Ted, there are multiple media players that are able to stream and playback multiple (originally closed) formats. The only really problematic ones nowadays are those that are using some sort of DRM, but the rest can be made to work and the most common ones should just work. The most common case seems to be that some webmasters are not following any of the standard ways of embedding the video on the pages.
