Now I am on the official Ubuntu 8.04 x86-64 (generic)
And I still have the same troubles....
It sounds that the new LTS release has not solved the sound problem.
All the output I have are exactky the same than before, except :

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /dev/sndstat
Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v1.0.16 emulation code)
Kernel: Linux patrick-laptop2 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 12:47:45 UTC
2008 x86_64
Config options: 0

Installed drivers:
Type 10: ALSA emulation

Card config:
HDA Intel at 0xfc300000 irq 22

Audio devices:
0: ALC883 Analog (DUPLEX)

Synth devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Midi devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Timers:
7: system timer

Mixers:
0: Realtek ALC889

What is strange again, is to see that Mixers are on this time (but no sound
out...), and this ALC883 Analog is coming back. My chipset is on ALC889 NOT
ALC883 !!!!!!!!!!

PS: I have the last release of alsa base , i.e. 16

I am very disappointed the new release has not solve this sound problem.

WHat should I do : come back to Micro$hit ?????

please HELP(SAVE) US !!!!!!!!!!!

Patrick.
