Please see BUG 218265.

Hi,

I have a sound problem with my ACER ASPIRE 8920G.
I did everything : installation linux-backport-modules, changes in alsa
files....reboot, compilation of new alsa driver but despite that....same
problem : no sound at all : on headphones nor on speakers.....nothing at all !
;-(
I am on Hardy 8.04 beta with x86_64.
In addition : I also tried the way to download the last driver, e.g.
alsa-driver-1.0.16rc2.tar.bz2 here :
ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/alsa-driver-1.0.16rc2.tar.bz2 (last
release i found) Then i extracted it, compiled it and installed it.... No
improvements (i checked again everything with alsamixer, sound properties, and
so on...). No errors also during the reboot. The sound still is definitively
silent..... ;-(((

Here are some data who can be useful for you to solve this bug
(concerning essentially Acer laptop it sounds, according to what i saw
before...) :
