Public bug reported: Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree
I discovered that Firefox v3.0b5 on Ubuntu 8.04 crashes when I tried to open a web page with Flash content, if the "Shockwave Flash" plugin [flashplugin-nonfree v9.0.124.0ubuntu2] is enabled. The error displayed at the terminal is a "Segmentation fault". Example web pages are: (1) your Gmail inbox (uses flash for chatting): http://mail.google.com/mail/?source=navclient-ff#inbox (2) Ars Technica (has flash ads): http://arstechnica.com/index.ars. Epiphany (v2.22.1.1) on Ubuntu 8.04 uses the same flash plugin and it too crashes, with the same error, while trying to load these pages. Firefox v2.0.0.3 on Ubuntu 8.04 also crashes if it uses this plugin. (This version of firefox was working all right in Ubuntu 7.10 with an older version of the flash plugin.) The problem vanishes if I disable the flash plugin.
