I've tested building and running the latest debian version (2.3.0-1) and I've failed to reproduce the crash. However there are Severe performance issues when using Xv and compositing with 2.3.0, Playback of a 1280x720 video with "desktop effects" enabled causes my cpu usage to reach about 80% on both cores, but when playing the same video without the effects i get around 10%. But at least my X server doesn't crash...
