I also have interest in the outcome of your discussions, as I have sound problems since my clean Hardy installation which did not exist for me in Gutsy. I would be interested (as a bit of a linux newbie) comprehensive instructions on how to revert to the sound server model as used in Gutsy, as I feel for my machine at least, sound as it is, is almost unusable.
