I was experiencing the same problem with Ubuntu Gutsy, Bluefish 1.0.7 and gnome-vfs. Based on a comment in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-vfs/+bug/174263 , I reinstalled the gnome-vfs package and related packages.
