Brian, thanks for looking at this; I'm not sure that gdm is the right package; I was referring to the power icon in the top right of a logged- in desktop. This problem may also affect the gdm shutdown interface, but I don't know if that's the case. I didn't/don't know what package that button belongs to, though.
