Dan (and anyone else who might encounter this bug), This issue is caused by Nvidia's proprietary driver, if you switch the hue settings in Totem (or gstreamer) from minimum to maximum you'll get normal playback again. Unfortuantely, this doesn't change the issue with usplash.
