I am also having the same issue with the Live CD / Server CD and 8.04 Desktop Alt CD. I have not been able to install a new version of Ubuntu on this PC since 6.06. From my googling it appears to be an issue with the Intel Chipset and my board supporting both IDE and SATA. I have tried many of the work around suggestions on several other bug reports and forums and all have failed. When running through the CD I get to the point where it tries to mount my cdrom drive and fails, but a copy Ubuntu 6.06 succeeds. I also have WinXP running on the same machine without problem.
MotherBoard: P4P800-VM Primary IDE Master: Maxtor 6Y080L0 Primary IDE Slave: None Secondary IDE Master: SAMSUNG CD-RW SW Secondary IDE Slave: None Third IDE Master (Sata1): WDC WD5000KS-00MNB Forth IDE Master (Sata1): WDC WD5000KS-00MNB The kernel options that i have tried are as follows: all_generic_ide nopaic nolapic combined_mode=ide combined_mode=libata enable_atapi=1 It appears to me that it is just failing to recognize the cdrom drive, because when I remove the quiet option I see it detect the Primary Master (maxtor drive) and then hangs when trying to detect the Secondary Master (samsung drive). After trying to detect for about 2+ minutes it will then detect both of my sata drives. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions or needs any additional information to troubleshoot this bug. -- ata2.00: exception emask 0x0 sact ... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/223014 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
