I am far away from home, so I cannot answer quickly. Indeed it was odd to revert to /dev notation but I used it to explore what happened (remember that I was in a 'critical' situation where nothing was working, bad partitions, bad swap, no /home..., and at that moment I did not know vol_id). Mounting by hand /dev/sda2 or /dev/sdb2 to /home was a quick way to verify that the problems were linked to the identification of the drives.
