Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager
This was generated automatically by update manager in the process of upgrading from Gutsy to Hardy. So I have no idea what happened or what should have happened. The same installation produced a bug report for linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24, which is possibly the root problem. I'll finish this report off and put its number in that report so you can cross reference them.
