here's the dmesg output.

** Attachment added: "dmesg output"

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-mouse

At random times in Kubuntu Edgy (which I dist-upgraded to from a fresh
6.06.1 install), my USB optical mouse (it's a Nexxtech mini-travel
mouse, about $20CDN from the Source).

In fact, as I wrote this, the mouse died! I am on a laptop with a
touchpad, and I played around with Xorg.conf and set the mouse to IMPS/2
and ExplorerPS/2, and both give me problems. What can be done? I'll
attach a dmesg output or the latest mouse crash (error will likely be
near the end of the text file)
+
+ I didn't mean to give this bug high importance, but I don't know how I
+ did it, could someone change it to medium?
