This was a treasure to stumble upon :) After much investigation, I tried David Bensimon's workaround from 21/4 and finally managed to get my fit-PC (http://www.fit-pc.com/new/specifications.html) to show a resolution greater than 800x600 when running Hardy. Unfortunately, I'm not able to test for greater than 1280x1024.
