@Eric, The hanging happens when you reach page 10 not when you select text as described in the description of this report.
In your particular case, Evince memory consumption jumps to 1.7GB when you reach page 10 (first page with formulas) If you don't have enough memory the system begins to swap, generates lots of IO and CPU activity. Can you please open a new report for this case.
