Same for me. Dell XPS 1330, Ubuntu Hardy hangs randomly. Mouse pointer still active but nothing is clickable or commandable through the keyboard. When I plug/unplug the power cable, I notice screen brightness changing accordingly. No Ctrl+Alt+Bksp, I have to shutdown the computer by pressing the power button.
