Deactivating "Evolution Alarm Notifier" in System/Preferences/Sessions/Startup Programs solves the problem for me!
I tested this on several systems! --- I vote for replacing the dependency on Evolution in ubuntu-desktop with a dependency on a virtual "Mail Client" package!
