Even if you close terminal and reopen it, any further commands get "E: Could 
not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another 
process using it?" even though there is nothing else which should be using it. 
So presumably, the java thingy is still supposedly doing something, even though 
it really isn't.

This all started when I executed this command:

sudo apt-get install alsa-oss compizconfig-settings-manager faad
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad gstreamer0.10-plugins-
bad-multiverse gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-
multiverse gstreamer0.10-pitfdll liblame0 sun-java6-fonts sun-java6-jre
sun-java6-plugin unrar w32codecs
