I manager to fix this issue completely on Monday on my Dell Inspiron 530s with the help of the following thread.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=765195&page=7 I simply added "all_generic_ide floppy=off irqpoll" after the -- as suggested and was able to boot and install from the Live CD. Then I added the same to Grub and I was done.
