I have been using Hardy Alpha 6 and have not (as yet) updated to the full 8.04 release, which may be aggravating matters.
However, I have not changed anything out of the ordinary, nor altered the startup sequence or programs called. The only things other than the default install that are enabled on this machine are: NVidia Closed Source drivers, Compiz Fusion GIT Master.
