Public bug reported: On May 9th, 2008 I upgraded from Ubuntu 7.10 running on Dell Inspiron to Ubuntu 8.0.4 which was distributed to me via Internet the same day. I accepted all of the distribution files as is. The installation reached the "Restart" step without apparent incident. When I clicked 'Restart' the machine would not boot. It went to a debug screen with lots of messages of exception codes and addresses. I tried again to boot by powering off/on and got the same result.
I wanted to learn more so I tried once again to power off/on but this time I used F12 and Esc to get to menus. What I discovered from a menu of boot options was that none of them were set. I manually set the boot option to the hard disk and set it in motion. The machine booted. I was able to log in. My complaint is that the upgrade program does not set the boot option. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Boot Failure after 8.0.4 Upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228848 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
