I'm attempting to migrate from Ubuntu 6.06 to 8.04 (via a clean install
to a separate partition on the same machine). In doing this I've noticed
several issues probably related to my ATI RADEON 7000 video card. I'm
reporting this as an issue with xvidtune, although I realize that the
problem may be elsewhere.
I use a resolution of 1280 x 1024.
In 6.06 I successfully used xvidtune to obtain settings to add to
xorg.conf in order to center my screen. When I try to do the same thing
in 8.04 I encounter the following problems:
I run xvidtune from a terminal and click the Test button. A message box
displays with the following message:
"Sorry: You have requested a mode-line That is not possible, or not
supported by your hardware configuration" (see the attached screenshot)
I then click the Acknowledged button. The terminal displays the
following output:
"Warning: XtRemoveGrab asked to remove a widget not on the list"
I've had some other video issues that I'm mentioning only as additional
data points for the problem above:
* I initially had no splash screen when shutting down (video went
completely off). I fixed this by adding the boot option "vga=775".
* I initially couldn't change the refresh rate from 60 Hz to 75 Hz, even
though I use 75 Hz in 6.06. 75 Hz was an available option that I chose
but it wouldn't stay set. I found the "Screens and Graphics" program and
believe I was finally able to successfully change the refresh rate
there.
* In 6.06 I was able to suspend to State S1 (standby) after some
tweaking. I'm not able to do that in 8.04 even after making the same
tweaks; I always get State S3 (suspend to memory). On my machine State
S3 leads to scrambled video upon returning from suspend. I CAN put the
computer on standby by entering the following command:
echo standby > /sys/power/state
However, doing this does not suspend video.
