I'm sorry but I wiped the drive after the in place upgrade failed. The /var/log/dist-upgrade dir is empty. Since the home directories were mostly retained I thinkt he user "Samstern" had some settings that caused this bug to be automatically filed.
I used apt-get to swap the drivers around btw - I do not use the package manager as syntaptic is anoying and add/remove is too simplistic.
