It seems the fix has been propagated to the 4.0 branch in 4.0.4. Now suspend works on my computer under KDE4 and hibernate also, although it does not resume from hibernation.... (btw, what is the command KDE uses for going into hibernation so I can tweak it and replace it with s2 which actually works ?).
