I can confirm this bug on Hardy. After starting shaketracker, the system freezes before the window is even fully drawn. Changing to terminal (Ctrl-F*) doesn't work after the freeze, but SysRq magic works. I'll send an strace output in next comment (don't want to write this again ;).
