I have the same problem, using the stable Hardy (Ubuntu 8.04) release. Everything described in the bug is exactly the same for me. In addition I wanted to give the following information: - The starting melody of Ubuntu works. Also in System->Administration->Hardware check the sound works (sound card recognized as Intel). At any other place it doesn't work - My sound card is according to my manual a "High Definition Audio Codec AD1986A". My Computer is a Samsung Q35 Laptop.
