Since upgrading to Hardy, the cups issue is resolved. I have all the cups settings back to system defaults and there is no mention of it in top during photo printing. Unfortunately, gs still spikes to 88+% and 4x6 photo prints sit in que for 85 seconds. The ghostscript bug is still open.
