Public bug reported:
The laptop tries to hibernate for a couple of minutes (print a line or
two on screen -- but can't copy/memorize. it advises me to set/unset
certain kernel param) and returns back to the desktop (the unlock
screen).
$ uname -a

GNU/Linux
The laptop model is HP Compaq nx6120.
Let me know if any other info is needed.
PS: I am not sure whether this is a regression in Hardy as I didn't
recall hibernate ever working successfully on any of the earlier
releases.
