Public bug reported: Binary package hint: apt
Enabling universe repository in Ubuntu hardy and doing apt-get update fails to download Packages from Universe. This happens for both the Indian mirror which I normally use and the Main Canonical repository. The exact error message is this: Hit http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy Release.gpg Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Translation-en_IN Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/restricted Translation-en_IN Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/universe Translation-en_IN Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/multiverse Translation-en_IN Hit http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates Release.gpg Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/main Translation-en_IN Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/restricted Translation-en_IN Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/universe Translation-en_IN Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/multiverse Translation-en_IN Hit http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-security Release.gpg Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-security/main Translation-en_IN Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-security/restricted Translation-en_IN Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-security/universe Translation-en_IN Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-security/multiverse Translation-en_IN Hit http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy Release Hit http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates Release Hit http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-security Release Get:1 http://packages.medibuntu.org hardy Release.gpg [189B] Ign http://packages.medibuntu.org hardy/free Translation-en_IN Ign http://packages.medibuntu.org hardy/non-free Translation-en_IN Get:2 http://packages.medibuntu.org hardy Release [5590B] Ign http://packages.medibuntu.org hardy Release Get:3 http://packages.medibuntu.org hardy/free Packages [5432B] Get:4 http://packages.medibuntu.org hardy/non-free Packages [7832B] Get:5 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages [1178kB] Get:6 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/restricted Packages [6986B] Get:7 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Sources [338kB] Get:8 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/restricted Sources [1488B] Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/universe Packages Hit http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/universe Sources Get:9 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/multiverse Packages [179kB] Get:10 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/multiverse Sources [60.9kB] Get:11 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/main Packages [44.9kB] Get:12 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/restricted Packages [14B] Get:13 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/main Sources [12.0kB] Get:14 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/restricted Sources [14B] Hit http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/universe Packages Hit http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/universe Sources Get:15 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/multiverse Packages [14B] Get:16 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/multiverse Sources [14B] Get:17 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-security/main Packages [11.5kB] Get:18 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-security/restricted Packages [14B] Get:19 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-security/main Sources [4022B] Get:20 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-security/restricted Sources [14B] Get:21 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-security/universe Packages [8134B] Get:22 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-security/universe Sources [1725B] Get:23 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-security/multiverse Packages [14B] Get:24 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-security/multiverse Sources [14B] Err http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/universe Packages Connection failed [IP: 91.189.88.45 80] I have tried manually doing wget http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/universe/binary-i386/Packages.gz and it successfully downloads the file.
