I have the same problem with Firefox 3 under Kubuntu 8.04 (with KDE 3). I had nothing the the Applications section in Preferences since the early betas. I have tired reinstalling Firefox 3 and purging all profiles and plug-ins (and such) with no positive result. Now I am using the latest versions available from the fta-ppa repository and it is till the same.
