This problem looks different than what I reported in that forum thread. On my system, I see the problem every few months. On my system, everything will be working fine, and then out of the blue sdb stops responding to SATA commands completely, and not even a shutdown -r now fixes it. A power cycle is needed. Before a reboot, the kernel doesn't notice anything even if I hot-unplug the hard drive. I think this means that port on the SATA controller isn't giving any results at all, not even link detection.
In the log above, after every port reset Linux detects a drive with the right size. On my system, there is no response at all from the drive when the problem is happening. -- Seagate ST980813ASG on Dell Vostro 1700 HD stops https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/196076 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
